From the Circumvesuviana station of Vico Equense take the street “Via Santa Maria del Toro”, a road with many bends that leads to the Sanctuary of “Santa Maria del Toro”.
Take the right of the ancient Via dei Mulini, a very uphill slope that, running along terraces of olive groves and pretty villas, leads to “Via S. Francesco” near the Bonea cemetery and the Convent of S. Francesco.
If you have time, visit the church and Via Crucis avenue that leads to a panoramic terrace on the Vico plain, enriched by the installation of the olive branch tribute to St. Francesco of Assisi and a stone statue of the same Saint.
To the left of the cemetery door, you cross a wooden bridge that leads to via Sperlonga, a white road that can be traversed by small cars following the pipes of the aqueduct outcropping in different points.
Before arriving at the “Sperlonga” spring, turn right to take the uphill trail to “Trina del Monte”. Having the sea on the left, continue to the source of “Capo D’Acqua” and just over, on a panoramic ridge where an hut supposedly of the hunters there is .
Follow the crest line uphill along trails and rocks, until you reach the “Croce dell’Eremita” and an high tension trellis, and then the “Belvedere del Faito”.
From the “Belvedere” on the opposite side of “Piazzale dei Capi”, take the rocky staircase that reaches the “Piazzale della Funivia” station in 20 minutes. Continue climbing the stairs of the station and crossing a picnic tables equipped until you cross the path 350 (“The Trail of the Angel”) that climbs from Castellammare.

Molto panoramico ma segnavia carenti ai bivi nevralgici
Sentiero estremamente panoramico, soprattutto dal bivio col sentiero per Moiano fino alla Croce dell’Eremita, che abbiamo completato in 3h 30′ nonostante le difficoltà di orientamento ai due bivi meno evidenti (Capo d’acqua e lo stesso bivio con sentiero per Moiano): pur aiutandoci con la traccia GPX, abbiamo impiegato diversi minuti esplorando varie tracce fino a individuare quella corretta, confortati solo poi dal segnavia…e non è un problema di alberi abbattuti. Nelle buone pratiche di tracciatura non è previsto una palina / segnavia a ogni bivio e un segnavia di conferma dopo 50 metri?!
Lavoro molto dettagliato e completo a cui tuttavia aggiungerei soltanto un dettaglio per me importante.
Ho letto con attenzione la descrizione del percorso pechè mi interessava essenzialmente conoscere se esisteva un sentiero che collegasse via Sperlonga con quello che da Trina del Monte porta a Capo D’Acqua. Grazie all’egregio lavoro fatto ho quindi saputo che il collegamento che cercavo esiste. Avrei piacere comunque di avere dati più dettagliati in quanto per non averlo mai individuato, sia pure in ricerchepoco approfondite, probabilmente sarà abbastanza nascosto.
Una volta arrivati alla capanna a capo d acqua bisogna proseguire dietro alla capanna per arrivare al belvedere? Perché abbiamo imboccato la stradina subito sulla sinistra della capanna ma ci siamo dovuti fermare perche il sentiero non era più percorribile. Forse questo che abbiamo preso è il 349c che dovrebbe portare al castagneto?
Latteria
Ho dato una sguardo alla mappa CAIML. Mi sono soffermato, in particolare, su un errore, che presumo riproduca quello presente nella corrispondente cartina IGM. Il punto indicato come “Villaggio sportivo” è in realtà la “Latteria” (che è, invece, correttamente indicata nelle mappe OSM). Il Villaggio sportivo si trova all’intersezione tra il sentiero 338a ed il curvone della strada che sale da Vico Equense. Grazie comunque per il servizio reso e buon lavoro!
